It was a week end of two halves with the better part on Saturday. Bernard Lennon led the Saturday walk into Coumshinghnaun Lake with a handy crew of club members. Parking up at Kilclooney Wood it was up the track to the stile and onto open mountain. Using the piggy back rock as his marker he turned north onto the track and headed for the lake in glorious sunshine and light winds. The views were stunning and after a light snack it was reverse track back to the cars and town all in time for lunch. The Saturday morning walks are a gentle introduction to our lovely mountains and take about three to four hours out to return.
Ray Prendergast led the early walk and Ray started from the Lyre, up Tooreen to Seefin and had lunch there. From Seefin Ray went to Fearbreaga reversed back to Seefin, back to Tooreen Mountain. He then dropped down to the glen and stream below Tooreen and returned to cars. Sean Brackett led the noon walk and went from Nire car park to the Boolas with twelve hardy souls to lead. Weather very showery and a gale force wind at times. Jim Flaherty forgot the gloves and Jimmy Trehy forgot the sandwiches but otherwise a most enjoyable day under the shelter of Carrignagower most of the time. All walks next week the 12th October are in the Knockmealdowns with Ger Barrett leading the 10am walk. The noon walk is led by Kevin O Donnell with Margo Kelly and Lily Butler assisting. Please bring all the winter gear as the seasons are changing
