'A' Walk Report 28th September 2014

The early walk was led by Kevin Bowen who was deputising for Ken Quinlivan and led his party of four walkers from King's Yard in Skeheenarinky up and onto the stunning Galtee Mountains.  


The first ascent of the day was accumulating the 27 contour lines from the floor of the Glounreagh stream in the valley of the same name all the ways up to spot-height 629 meters.  From its summit it was a change of compass bearing to the next destination, Lyracappul at 825 meters up and away into the fog in a north westerly direction.  Lunch was availed of in the shelter of the Galtee wall in lovely warm sunshine which welcomed the walkers as soon as they approached the summit.  


The summit of Lyracappul is a great vantage point to showcase the stunning three valleys way below to the south, those valleys being: the Glounreagh valley, the Blackrock valley and the Pigeon Rock valley.  After lunch it was a pleasant stroll along the Galtee wall over to the summit of Galtymore (919 meters), meeting other walking clubs along the way from far and near.  


Kevin then turned his group in a southerly direction and followed his compass bearing down the slopes of Galtymore passing Knockduff and Knocknagalty en-route to arrive safely back at King's Yard, where great amenities are provided for hill-walkers.  A great day out on the hills was had by all.  Walk statistics: Total Distance = 15.1 kms, Total Height Gain = 996 meters.
