When nature smiles it is a dazzling event and there was a broad smile on her face today as she gave us perfect conditions for walking the Knockmealdowns and we enjoyed every minute of the day. Ken Quinlivan led the early walk and he parked up at Graigue Pub and set off on the Munster Way for Knockshane. Lunch was partaken in glorious sunshine with convivial conversation before Ken led off down to the pair of lakes under Knockmealdown. Ken then informed his crew that they were going up the north side of the “big un” and once on top it was all smiles and good cheer. This is reputed to be Pascal’s favourite ascent and very enjoyable. All the hard work done the only way was down and through the woods, streams and waterfalls and the pleasant walk back to the cars at Graigue and gentle rehydration. Nora Phelan led the noon walk and Nora had ten walkers. Parking at Baylough it was a scenic stroll to the lough and the track onto Knockshanhullion at the back of Baylough. The sound of the cuckoo was all about and the glorious sunshine may have had something to do with this exotic avian visitors calling. Picking up the Munster way Nora and Anthony gently led back to the cars all in good order. Reminder that the Club has a trip to Kerry planned for Sunday the 14th weather permitting. The bus will leave Eldon’s at 7.30am for the trip and bring all the gear and some folding for the meal and refreshment afterwards
