Peaks Mountaineering Club Constitution

Our club constitution was adopted  at our AGM held on the 25th of September 1991.

Name: The Peaks Mountaineering Club

Aims: The Club is established for the following purposes:-

a)To develop Hill Walking and Mountaineering Skills.
b)To enjoy and appreciate the mountains and all that pertains to them.
c)To instil the highest standards of safety and to support Mountain Rescue.
d)To develop a positive commitment to conservation of mountain environment.

  • Membership: 
    Shall be open to all those over 18 years who accept the aims of the Club.
  • Membership cards shall be issued as subscriptions are paid annually.
  • Subscriptions shall be due immediately after the A.G.M.
  • The Club shall have the right to terminate the membership of any member, provided that the Club has afforded an opportunity for a hearing by the Executive Committee of the member's case before a final decision.
  • The Committee may refuse to accept membership.
Management: 

  • The affairs of the Club shall be managed by an Executive Committee which shall consist of 8 members elected at the A.G.M. (Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Meets Secretary, Public Relations Officer and 3 other members).
  • The Executive Committee shall meet not less than 4 times yearly.
  • The Executive Committee shall have the power to set up sub-committees as it deems necessary. Any such sub-committee shall act only through and with the authority of the Executive Committee.
A.G.M. (Annual General Meeting)

  • The Club shall hold an A.G.M. each year in September.
  • 4 weeks notice of the A.G.M. shall be given to paid-up members.
  • Membership subscriptions shall be set by simple majority of paid-up members at A.G.M.
E.G.M. (Extra-ordinary General Meeting)

  • An E.G.M. may be called by giving notice to the Hon. Secretary, in writing, request to be signed by 20% of the paid-up members.
  • The Hon. Secretary shall call such meeting within 28 days of receipt of request.
  • Quorum shall be 50% of the paid-up members.
This Constitution:
The Constitution can be amended at an A.G.M. by two-thirds majority provided notice of the amendments are circulated with the notice of the A.G.M.
