Grades Of Walks
In this article we outline the grades of walks that we organise for walkers to satisfy different levels of ability and experience. If you want to try out hillwalking you may come along on three walks before committing to membership.
PLEASE NOTE proper hiking boots MUST be worn on all walks.
Sunday - 10.00 AM Walks (*** or ****)
This grade of walk requires a good level of fitness. The walks can be six to seven hours in duration, covering an average distance of 18 kms with a height gain of 1,000m (approx).
New members are required to participate in a minimum of two 12.00 walks before undertaking a 10.00 walk.
Sunday - 11.00 PM Walk (*or ** or ***)
This walk is approximately four to five hours in duration, at a reasonable pace, covering an average distance of 12 kms with a height gain of 800m (approx). The walk does take place in the mountain environment and does require a reasonable level of fitness.
It is important that participants have a reasonable level of fitness before embarking on their first walk. Regular road walking at a brisk pace for a few weeks beforehand will help your fitness level and enable you to enjoy your first walk.
Please note that all walks are lead walks and the leader is in charge. Please respect the leaders instructions and be mindful that he/she has responsibilities regarding the safety of the group. This is especially important on the afternoon walk where parties tend to be larger and less experienced.
All members must be 18 years or over.
The club does not cater for children on walks other than the annual Holly Walk.
